Unique is a magazine where people can share their experiences about their relationships with their bodies. Through a series of editorial pieces, the audiences has the opportunity to read
about the journey of those dealing with eating disorders, being misgendered based on their appearance, and the pressures of having a certain body type as a dancer.

NAME & CONTENT

'Unique' came from the idea that everyone is unique in their own
way: their bodies, their experiences derived from body image as well as the relationship with their body. Even though people go through similar experiences, no two experiences will ever be the same.

I asked the participants to write an editorial piece describing their experiences and how it affected them. I asked them to share personal details (as long as they remained comfortable with sharing them) in order to give a chance for the audience to understand what they went through and the sentiments that came along with it.

CHALLENGES & TAKEAWAYS

Not only was this the first time I designed an entire magazine, it was also my first time taking the Art Director role. Having to overlook every little detail of the project, from the initial concept to planning photoshoots, gathering and proofreading the content of Unique. It was quite a learning experience, and it has taught me how to plan such a large project by setting deadlines for myself while managing different peoples' schedules in order to get everything done on time.
